Lori Palmeri Reacts to SCOTUS Overruling of Roe v Wade
State Assembly District 54 candidate, Lori Palmeri, today expressed shock, disappointment, and anger at the Supreme Court’s ruling overturning Roe v. Wade.
The ruling is a huge setback for the rights of all women. To make matters worse, because the Republican legislature refused to hold a special session this week. Wisconsin women now have to worry about their personal choices being controlled by a law from 1849.
“Women have been calling me all afternoon in various stages of shock, depression, and anger, asking now what?”, said Palmeri. “What this means is, some women in my district will have go out of state to receive the care they need and some may be forced to have unsafe illegal abortions. This is unacceptable.”
“The Supreme Court’s decision has shown us how urgent it is that we elect pro-choice candidates in the fall. I am that candidate that will fight for safe and legal abortion access. I am looking forward to working with representatives like Lee Snodgrass in District 57, who has championed this issue for many years. I believe anyone with a uterus should have private reproductive freedom. ” Palmeri said.

Mayor Lori Palmeri announces bid for 54th State Assembly
OSHKOSH, WI – Oshkosh Mayor Lori Palmeri has announced her bid to become the Democratic Party nominee for the State Assembly District #54 seat. The seat became open when Rep. Gordon Hintz announced his intention to step down at the end of his current term. Rep. Hintz contacted Lori directly to encourage her to run.
Palmeri has served as Oshkosh Mayor since first being elected in 2019. She was re-elected to the role in 2021. Prior to her time as Mayor, Lori served as an elected Oshkosh Common Council representative from 2016-2019.
Mayor Palmeri has established a reputation as a servant leader. She’s very skilled at demystifying City Hall for citizens who need help resolving issues ranging from animal control to zoning. In her mayoral campaigns she pledged to make Oshkosh more welcoming, and walked the talk by being the driving force behind the creation of the city’s first ever Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. During this difficult Covid era. Lori has been a leading voice for safe practices, including the right of people to participate in city meetings online.
Lori Palmeri believes servant leaders are needed in Madison. She’s horrified that the Republican leadership recently adjourned the legislature and announced they would not return until January of 2023! This in spite of the fact that too many needs–from education to environment to guaranteeing free and fair elections—remain unmet. The legislature clearly needs more citizen legislators who want to go to Madison to be the voice of their constituents and solve problems. Lori Palmeri will be that kind of citizen legislator.
Lori holds a bachelor’s degree in urban and regional studies from UW Oshkosh and a master’s degree in urban planning from UW Milwaukee. She is a mother, grandmother, a wife, and caring owner of two cats.
